Welcome to Newport Beach Creative Writing Camp, where young writers aged 9 to13 embark on a thrilling literary journey every summer!

Using both a classroom setting inside Newport Aquatic Center on the bay in Dover Shores. Along with outdoor meeting areas so our writers don’t feel cooped up on summer days, our day camp awaits eager minds every Monday through Thursday from 2 to 5 pm, offering a haven for them to unleash their creativity.

Led by Bruce Asper and Avery Knochel, both in their second year and scheduled to receive their Master of Fine Arts in Fiction degrees from Eastern Washington University in 2025, Newport Beach Creative Writing Camp promises an enriching and engaging experience like no other. With years of experience teaching kids, our instructors foster a nurturing environment where imagination knows no bounds.

From crafting epic adventures to penning heartfelt poems, campers are encouraged to explore the vast landscape of storytelling through exciting writing prompts, interactive workshops, and collaborative projects.

At Newport Beach Creative Writing Camp, we believe in empowering young voices, nurturing their love for literature, and instilling confidence in their storytelling abilities. Join us as we embark on a summer filled with inspiration, camaraderie, and the joy of creating stories that will last a lifetime

  • “Bruce has gone out of his way to help my writing in any way possible. When I was facing writer’s block, he came up with special exercises to help, and his classes are so supportive and packed with information” Nicole
  • “My daughter was moving schools and feeling down the spring before her first camp with Bruce. Not only did she feel welcomed and part of a community, her confidence grew exponentially through their inclusion and gentle encouragement. Thank you, thank you Bruce!” Krissie
